Attend a Training
In his opening speech for Finance for Non Finance Training today, our COO said there are two certainties in this world: - first is death and second is tax. In the middle of training our Finance Controller said that for him there’re three certainties, not only two as mentioned by our COO. First, absolutely unavoidable which is death, second, strongly unavoidable which is tax and third one or relatively unavoidable is sex–while he explained to us about tax planning.
One of my colleague asked about the differences between amortize and depreciation. Again there’s a humor. Trainer said human is depreciating their ages. He wanted to show how depreciation for tangible things and amortize for intangible things. And what happened if an engineer, an accountant and a lawyer are flying and getting stuck together in a plane that its engine is failure?
The engineer says ” Ok everybody calm down. Good news! I can fix the engine within 12 minutes.”
The accountant says “Please do in a hurry, I will pay whatever you ask.”
Lawyer says “Wait a minute, I will prepare the draft of agreement, in case…”
Our trainer just wanted to make this training fun and everyone paid attention to him since this training consisted of engineers, accountants and lawyer. Overall, it supposed to be an interesting subject especially for the one who interesting in numbers. But what I got in my notes were mostly all of jokes and humors during this training, lol. What’s wrong with me? I don’t know.
We have so many trainings this year, there are bi-weekly strategic leader development, sometimes soft skill and like what I had today is finance training. Those were in house with in-house trainer. We also attend some external trainings. I am grateful for having those –although sometime, especially like this month I have to struggle with low blood sugar during the training (and I saw others too). Unfortunately, I always found somebody that didn’t utilize this occasion as well, then I could make sure that she or he might not come from my company even we come from the same group.
Why can I say it? Everyone from our company who ever attended our internal training will always look eager and paid full attention to the trainer and respected to other participants. It didn’t mean I’ll say that ours is the best, but I’d like to share about what we used to do to encourage and improve other and I think this is not a kind of “riya” or pretence and show . We use the training to dig more knowledge. Everyone is active to show their opinions and bring up questions. The training became so conducive and we got a positive ambience. Everyone involved as well even these trainings were in English. We could see the differences (significant improvement) of somebody after she or he attended it for twice at least. At the end everyone satisfied. This success is part of both trainer and participant’s success. The ground rules played the important role here.
However, whatever the training type is, here some general tips for the readers who will attend training:
- Please do your “homework”, trying to read some material that related to the training’s subject.
- If you have time, you could write downa questions listthat may relate to the subject.
- Prepare your body, sleep well and eat well.
- Don’t forget to delegate your tasks during your training, so you reduce the disturbances.
- Come as early as possible.
- Before the training, give your self a moment of silence, so you can feel you’re 100% in the class.
- Pay full attention to the trainer.
- Show respectto others, respect tothe trainer, and respect to the participants.
- Use QA session as well.
- If meal is serviced during training, please do not each too much or you will be sleepy.
- Keep your hand phone off or in silent mode.
- Do not make a forum inside the forum.
Do you have other tips? Please do not hesitate to enrich this article. Thank you
