Once Again: Time Management
A long journey… I think about it while I walked out the door this morning. I will attend bi-weekly management training, Yoga class after office hour, and get night-flight to Timika tonight; I will have a full day meeting tomorrow and get back to Jakarta at the following day to catch another Yoga class on Thursday evening and weekly meeting every Friday morning. Are you sorry to hear about it? Don’t be. I am all right, this is part of my responsibilities and part of my to-do- list.
Speaking about to do list or tasks list, we can use A-B-C roles to make a priority. Priority A for must do items that are critical–it is something that important and urgent to do immediately, priority B means should do items which is has more flexible time value, we don’t need to accomplish this task in a hurry but it will be a good ideas to do it, and priority C means nice to do items with no rush such as social conversation for relaxing or generating ideas. The priorities could change every time. It depends on the situational. For example you don’t need to accomplish the task by A to B to C while the suitable solution for the situation is do C first then A or B. Remember it relates to time management and please remember while we talk about time management actually we don’t manage the time because we never have time, but we manage our activities during the time.
Last night I am preparing may time plan by using A-B-C roles. It gave contemplation experience for me. I was thinking about my working schedule in daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, and other periods and this made me thought who or what controls my time? What am I going to do? What are my goals? I remember a nice quote, it says;-
If you don’t know where you’re going, it’s hard to tell when you have arrived.
Yeah, if I can’t determine my goals so where am I? I am going no where, very pathetic and unproductive.
Next I feel the necessity to check the appropriate field based on how I act and feel. It is such as;- do I need to attend the Yoga class tonight while I have to prepare my luggage and order a cab for 8.30 p.m.? Once again I remember to Stephen R. Covey’s quadrant;- important and urgent, not important and urgent, important but not urgent, and not important not urgent. Well, well, it’s situational, though. Yoga class is not so important and not so urgent, preparing my luggage is important but I already prepare the clothes this morning I just to put it into the bag. I live near the office so normally I could managing the time because I can calculate the time spending for Yoga class, going home, packing, ordering a cab, and I have enough time to take a rest.
Now the new question is how to manage our waste time? For me tonight, I will bring something to read, and to eat. How about you? What will you do during waiting for something?
