I love (traditional) books!

I read in Zen Presentation two series article about the books “Books are dead (long live books!)”. This question is quiet interesting to me since I am interesting in books.

I also concern about the traditional books in Indonesia and reading interest of Indonesian particularly the youngster. We all know the books’ price in Indonesia is not cheap moreover imported books and magazines. While most of the people still struggle for the basic needs then the budget for books are almost impossible. This is one factor that affects the reading interest of Indonesian. In America as mentioned in Zen Presentation, forty percent of the people in the US read one book or less on 2007. This is U.S., then what happened in Indonesia as developing country sounds apparently less than that.

For those who weren’t affected by the price, do you still read traditional books?

Trough the invention of E-book and other on line media of knowledge like Blog, people have choices for eliciting books or their reading. Lucky me, I am part of the people who have some choices. I can choose read an E book or traditional books. But off course there are differences effects. I love traditional books. I enjoy reading the traditional books because they allows me to read it in a relax situation and flexible way. I can read it on public vehicle, private area or somewhere. I love the smell of the paper particularly papers of an old books. I like to touch it and feel the paper texture while I read it. It is so relaxing for me. I also enjoy purchase them in a conventional book store. I love the idea of spending an afternoon in a bookstore to stumbling upon some books then visiting a coffee shop, while I have a cup of black coffee or green tea I am starting to open my book and read it –sound like so sophisticated life, but I didn’t have such occasions for months. Being in Jakarta is other advantage for me, since it has books sale kind of Pesta Buku (Books Party). I can satisfy my self by buying book with discounted price. It is much cheaper of course– this is the good news. The bad news is I often spend lot of money until it over budget and make me poor at the other day. So I have to make a good plan for book shopping and make a tight budget.

Now I am reading two books the first is about mindset (The Secret of Mindset by Adi W. Gunawan. It is a gift from blogger friend Mr. Erander, thanks again Sir) and from the author of phenomenal book titled The Goal; Eliyahu M. Goldratt;- It’s Not Luck (This is an old book, published in 1994, My COO borrowed it to me couple days ago). If I have opportunity I’d like to post what I‘ve read in my point of view and in a brief way someday (InsyaAllah).

Btw, do I read E book? Of course, but the psychological effects is different. This experience is another thing, and I need it to obtain information in a fast mode particularly to support my job as a planner.
