Change? Why not…

A best friend gave me self-development book for teen one and half years ago. It is about change. Deanna Beisser writes it. Even I am not a teen anymore, it was interesting me since I found this sentence in one of the pages; Giving by lots of love for one of best friend, Yoga… I know she tries to convince me that I need to be change badly at that time. It’s her sincere attention to me and I really appreciate it until now. Unfortunately I could not change as soon as her expectation. A year after she gave it, I just started to change.

The first page of this book is a question, is it time to make a change? Well, honestly at that time my answer is yes. But nothing happened, why? It is because I am passive one. I didn’t take any action to realize it. How come? It is because I feel insecure to change or be changed. It is difficult to change current habit. Even I always say everything is possible. Then finally I have to change due a moment that has pushes me. What do I feel? I feel better and happy now. I can say, it is true that our destiny won’t change except we change it by ourselves.

I got some important lesson from this experience;
1. Don’t be afraid to change. I could be disappointed later, but who knows? If I am not success to change perhaps I will frustrate, and the situation become worst. Before it happened I prefer to be positive thinking.
2. It won’t never too late to change for good (and never regret why you just take action currently).
3. I should take action immediately before unfortunate situation comes a head.
4. I shouldn’t expect to change others. It won’t work.
5. I need my extra strength in order to be stick to my goal.
6. Supporting from the environment is needed.

In change management theory; insecure feeling is normally happen while we are moving from comfort zone to discomfort zone—from first Sigmoid curve (S-curve) existing business to the second S-curve or new business. Which is it’s a challenge for human intuiting, and their recent history. If they fail they can break. Rhenald Khasali, Ph.D. writes some characteristic of change;
1. It’s mysterious because you can’t hold on it.
2. Change needs a change maker(s).
3. No one could see it. The big problem is to ask everyone see what you see, and believe it.
4. It could happen every time.
5. It has soft and hard source. Soft source are money and technology, hard source are sort of human, and organization.
6. It takes time, budget, and strength.
7. It should touch the corporate basic value.
8. Many myths affect the changes such as it are done by young people or it is needed when unfortunate situation is come.
9. It affect an expectation which is sometime it could be disappointed. Then hope management should follow change management.
10. It’s scary.

Basically these characteristics are similar with personal change characteristic. What I’ve learned from my past experience having a common with this theory. Another thing, it doesn’t mean we don’t need change when everything is going well or establishing. We can use it to improve our self, our business, or our achievement. It’s what we need in continuous improvement such as applied in Six Sigma.

Wise quote from Einstein; “We can not solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.” Do you agree with him? Then let’s revise our life or improve it. It doesn’t matter how far we have take our steps.

Thank you for AL who has encouraged me to be a better girl. Dec 31, 2007.
